Description
This is the early-war M3A1 Diaphragm Gas Mask and Bag issued to U.S. Army GI's in WWII, where it was necessary to speak through the mask (hence, the "diaphragm"). The M3A1 differs from the original M3 in that the exhalation valve and "speaker" are made of plastic rather than metal, as was the M3. The new parts were most likely functionally superior to the previous types as well as lighter. The bag is the "kidney-shaped" one made of khaki/light olive drab canvas and is in good used condition. The mask is in similar good used condition.
