WWII Signal Flag Set, Air Raid Warden Helmet, Gas Mask Collection As a member of the United States Office of Civil Defense, the wearer of the Air Raid Warden Helmet had the responsibility of organizing and mobilizing domestic populations in the event of an aerial attack. This organization was introduced during the Second World War and continued throughout the Cold War. The Signal Flag Set is stenciled with the Signal Corps Insignia and the legend “U.S. ARMY FLAG KIT”. It includes two red and white semaphore flags on their original oak staffs. In addition, the kit also includes the less commonly found “wig-wag” flags, a red flag with a white square in the center and a white flag with a red square in the center, The gas mask has the original instruction booklet, and a carry bag. These items had been in storage for more than sixty years, and the condition shows age and wear. Condition is as shown in photos, but items would be a welcome and prized addition to any militaria collection.
