Features
- The MSA Model S was the most advanced system of it's day:
-
- The United States Bureau of Mines extended to the Chemox Oxygen Breathing Apparatus approval 1307 against the exacting requirements of Approval Schedule 13C for a period of 45 minutes.
-
- The canister was made up of five layers of chemical with the bottom layer (which first reacts with the exhaled breath) containing the catalyst mixed with the KO.
-
- Extensive investigation showed that the maximum efficiency was obtained with this construction. The chemical was prepared and packed under carefully controlled conditions of humidity and each canister was fluoroscopically inspected to insure optimum performance.
-
- The canister weighed approximately 4 pounds and the complete apparatus with canister inserted approximately 13 pounds, thus producing the highest and most efficient self-contained breathing apparatus then available.
