Description
This is a 1.0 gram sample of 99.6% pure Uranium Nitrate Hexahydrate - (UO2(NO3)2) - 6H2O in a sealed ampule from J.T. Baker Chemical Co. The material is crystalline and shows bright fluorescence under UV light. Some of the crystals are in the 2-3mm size range. Great for testing sodium iodide Gamma counters.
Crystals of uranium nitrate are triboluminescent. Uranyl nitrate is important for nuclear reprocessing; it is the compound of uranium that results from dissolving the decladded spent nuclear fuel rods or yellowcake in nitric acid, for further separation and preparation of uranium hexafluoride for isotope separation for preparing of enriched uranium.
The material is toxic and the vial should not be opened.
By purchasing this product, I agree to the Disclaimer and Electronic Waiver of Liability Agreement shown under the "Extended Information" tab above.
Features
- Uranyl nitrate is an oxidizing and highly toxic compound and should not be ingested; it causes severe renal insufficiency and acute tubular necrosis and is a lymphocyte mitogen. Target organs include the kidneys, liver, lungs and brain. It also represents a severe fire and explosion risk when heated or subjected to shock in contact with oxidizable substances.
-
- As with all mineral samples a possible hazard exists. Buyers should be aware of the elemental composition of a sample and understand any safety concerns. More info: Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
